Living in the seaside town of Mumbles, the local Gower coastline and country side has been an influence on much of Gareth's work. He has done work for the NHS, Surfers Against Sewerage, mumbles community council, Mountain Movers Education, Author - Ffion Jones as well as a number of small independent commissions.
Gareth graduated from Swansea University in 2001 where he studied General Illustration. His commitments have taken him from working prolifically as an illustrator over the past 15 years, but changes to circumstances mean that he is now able to concentrate on working as an illustrator and says he is currently “living the dream”. His chosen media is ink and water colour and his style is inspired by his favourite illustrator (Chris Riddell) but Gareth also digitally colours some of his images to ensure colours are not lost in the reproduction.
He says “Illustrating a children’s book, when you’re not the author, can be quite an intensive process but is always exciting. It’s a unique creative relationship where the author hands over a massive amount of ownership in the creative process. I feel privileged when I have been asked to illustrate and get very excited as the book develops”
